It has been 3 years, 5 months, and 20 days since I last published on this blog. Yes, this long! There is a condition I came to know about called Writer’s block, in which a writer loses the inspiration or motivation to write, but I didn’t consider myself a writer in the first place. I am still learning to write and it will take many years to become an accomplished writer. The first article I authored in 2007 was published in one of the most popular newspapers in Nigeria, the feeling was great, even more exciting was reading the comments and engaging with readers of the article. This I missed since 2017, the last time I published anything, anywhere, until today.
So many things contributed in my so-called “writer’s block”, for once I thought writing articles doesn’t contribute much to my personal development, but I was wrong. Combining day to day life with writing especially those who don’t consider writing as a source of livelihood will put it on the bottom of the list of priorities. Another reason is I am shy, sometimes shying away from my ideas, I rather leave them with me than let them out. I remember in secondary school, I collected poems, short stories, riddles and jokes, and made them into a book, my father supported me financially to print the books, which I shared freely with my classmates and friends, but instead of crediting myself as the author or collector on the cover page, I credited a classmate whom I can’t even remember how he helped. Because I was shy to have my name on the cover page. That was childish of course, but I am yet to get over the shyness problem.
Now that I am motivated to start writing again, I will start with the past 3 years’ major events in my life, starting with 2018, the year I lost my father, how things changed since then and more, and of course, 2020, the year of the coronavirus pandemic, surviving the year, conspiracy theories, technology, and more.
